Gloria C. Burgoon, 85, of Dothan, Ala., died May 23, 2010 at home. She was born September 18, 1924 in the Republic of Panama and was employed with the U.S. Air Force as a Civil Engineer for thirty-seven years prior to retirement in 1979. She was a member of the Panama Canal Society.

Jacqueline J. Cahue, 75, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died May 27, 2010, at Carrington Place Nursing Home. She and her late husband Dr. Aldo E. Cahue traveled to the Canal Zone in Panama during the course of his psychiatric career.

Robert W. "Bob" Clarihew, 73, died February 19, 2010, in Pinellas Park, Fla. He was a cable splicer for General Telephone before going to the Canal Zone in 1970. He worked in the Electrical Division and left in 1975 after being injured. He was a member of the Panama Canal Society.

Pamela R. (Hawthorne) Coloski, 73, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died May 7, 2010. She was a 1955 graduate of Cristobal High School and a member of the Panama Canal Society.

William Reed Graham died at home in Kerrville, Texas, on May 19, 2010. He was born in Colon, R.P., on December 14, 1917. He was a Canal Zone policeman for 10 years and then transferred to other employment. He retired in 1972 from the Panama Railroad. He was a member of the Panama Canal Society.

Kevin J. Joyce, 46, of Jacksonville, Fla., died March 1, 2010. He was born in the Canal Zone to William and Mildred Joyce and graduated from Balboa High School in 1982. He was a member of the Panama Canal Society.

Jean Holmelin Kirk, 87, died April 14, 2010, in Springfield, Ohio. She was raised in Cristobal, Canal Zone, and graduated from Cristobal High School in 1940. She was a member of the Panama Canal Society.

Alcinda B. (Atkins) Lanning, 62, of Mayport, Fla., died May 7, 2009. She was raised in Curundu, Canal Zone, and graduated from Balboa High School in 1966. She was a member of the Panama Canal Society.

 

Mary Griffin Lynch, 93, of Tampa, Fla., died May 10, 2010. She was born in Panama in 1917 and graduated from Cristobal High School. She worked for many years for the Accounting Division of the Panama Canal Company and retired in 1971. She was a member of the Panama Canal Society.

Vivian Murphy Mikulich died June 2, 2010, in Everett, Wash. She moved to the Canal Zone in 1951 with her husband where she taught fifth grade at Balboa Elementary School for many years. She retired in 1974 and was a member of the Panama Canal Society.

Albert "Ray" Moore, 87, of Seminole, Fla., died May 6, 2010. He worked for AT&T Long Lines for 41 years in Louisiana, Tennessee, Panama and New Jersey before retiring to Florida in 1984. He was a member of the Panama Canal Society.

Margarita "Cecilia" Kant de Nicolaisen, 92, died April 23, 2010, in Las Cumbres, Panama. She was born on her family coffee farm in Chiriqui, R.P. Her family helped make Boquete one of the great coffee-producing regions of Panama. When her late husband Andreas Nicolaisen retired from the Panama Canal, she moved to Kerrville, Texas, then Houston, Texas, and finally back to Panama.

Hal Christian "Speed" Robertson, Jr., 77, died September 14, 2009. He was born in the Canal Zone and at the age of 14 moved to the Atlanta area in 1946. He retired from Equifax after a successful 40-year career. He was a member of the Panama Canal Society.

Charles John Tobin, Sr., 66, of Orange Park, Fla., died May 3, 2010. He moved in 1990 from the Republic of Panama. He was a local member of the VFW and the Loyal Order of the Moose in the Republic of Panama.

Annie Torbert Wainio, 95, died on December 12, 2009, in Cardenas, R.P. She was born June 18, 1914, the same year the Canal opened, and graduated from Balboa High School in 1931. She worked for 11 years for the U.S. Embassy in Panama, then worked for the U.S. Army and retired as a Translater for G2 in Fort Amador in 1973. She was a member of the Panama Canal Society.
